Love at first bite

In the Reggio Emilia plain, amongst the fields stretching towards the River Po, grows the Anguria Reggiana PGI, one of the fruits that symbolises summer in Emilia.
Fresh, sweet and thirst-quenching, it is recognised by its bright red, crisp and juicy flesh, and by its high sugar content, which defines its intense and natural flavour.
Grown in a specific area of the Reggio Emilia lowlands, this watermelon is the result of a deep-rooted agricultural tradition and constant care throughout every stage of production, from sowing to manual harvesting.
The different varieties – round, oval and elongated – reflect the richness of a region dedicated to quality and seasonality.

Its history is long-standing: already prized in centuries past, it was considered a product of distinction and has, over time, helped to define the agricultural identity of the Reggio Emilia plain, gaining recognition even beyond local borders.

Now, the Reggiana Watermelon is certified with the PGI (Protected Geographical Indication) label, obtained in 2016 thanks to the commitment of local producers, and represents one of the province’s finest agricultural products.
Every summer it is also celebrated in Novellara, where the tradition is kept alive at the festival dedicated to the season’s most eagerly awaited fruit.

A simple and authentic symbol of summer in Reggio Emilia, capable of conveying, in every slice, the connection between the land, the climate and agricultural culture.
