The realization of the map of the Green Belt, published by the Municipality, provides opportunities, through cycle-pedestrian paths surrounded by greenery. From the Parco del Crostolo (700 hectares), with the historical area of the Reggia di Rivalta, to the Parco del Rodano (400 hectares), which gravitates around the Mauritian and the Parco delle Acque Chiare, to the younger Parco del Modolena (370 hectares ), with the historic Villa Levi. The Parco del Crostolo extends south of Reggio on 5.7 million square meters and constitutes one of the most loved and frequented naturalistic green spaces by the people of Reggio.
It can be reached from the historic center through the so-called "Estense walk", a cycle-pedestrian path that continuously, from Corso Garibaldi, passing through Viale Umberto I, reaches the main entrance of the green area, after the San Pellegrino bridge, to continue to the historic Royal Palace of Rivalta and Villa d'Este. The park is characterized by the presence of significant historical-cultural values, in particular for the system of the Estense dwellings: the Reggia di Rivalta, Villa d'Este with the Corbelli Bath, Villa Rivaltella. The first to be built, it represents the entertainment area par excellence of the Reggio people. With the opening of the underpass to the Milan-Bologna railway, the park has reached 7 million square meters. Thanks to the extension of the 'Greeenway del Crostolo' (total 16 km of cycle-pedestrian path) up to Cavazzoli and the Municipality of Cadelbosco Sopra, it is possible to reach the fascinating area of the plain reclamation, modeled by man over the centuries. . Through the green areas of Via Settembrini, the map leads from Parco del Crostolo to Parco del Rodano, which with its 400 hectares embraces the city of Reggio towards the east. The area is characterized by a marked "wildness" and a greater naturalistic value, also given the presence of several fountains, a Site of Community interest (Sic) and an area of ecological rebalancing (Are). The symbol of the park is the Mauritian, Ariosto's residence and place of the historical identity of the entire city of Reggio, which is offset by the Parco delle Acque Chiare, which is becoming an animated hub of the neighborhood's social life. Inside some important connections have been made that connect these places of historical-cultural and naturalistic interest and of great charm.
