In San Bernardino is the Corte di San Bernardino (Casa Folloni), first recorded in the 12th century as Villa dei Reatini.
In 1423, it hosted the famous San Bernardino of Siena, a Franciscan preacher, and still maintains structures dating back to the Matildic and Renaissance periods: a dovecote tower, a manor house and a 16th-century oratory dedicated to the saint.
The farming village is well known for the delicious ciccioli (pork cracklings) produced there; for its vinegar cellars, its Lambrusco Reggiano wineries and the dairies that produce Parmigiano Reggiano cheese.
The village of Campagnola Emilia first developed in the 17th century and still retains the charm of its original town layout.
Its roots lie in the era of the Canossa family (9th century), the monastery of Frassinoro and the Da Correggio family (14th–17th centuries), as evidenced by the elegant villas and ancient churches that dot the landscape.
Among the most evocative historical attractions is the abbey dedicated to the Holy Trinity, founded in the 12th century and once one of the most important in the Reggio Emilia area: today, only a small church remains, set within a typical rural courtyard, which tells the long and fascinating history of the village.
