The Unproductive

Personal exhibition by Giulia Andreani, who presents a project composed of an organic series of new paintings and watercolours. At the Maramotti Collection, Via Fratelli Cervi 66.

October 29, 2013 - March 10, 2024

The artist's work originates from the elaboration of collective memories, from fragments of history at risk of being lost, which the artist recovers and transforms into complex pictorial compositions and visual collages built by correspondence.

Her primary source of research and inspiration are the archives, particularly the objects of the analogue era that they contain: faded letters, yellowed documents and, above all, black-and-white photographs that the artist selects, collects and filters in a non-linear way, restoring their key elements.

The conceptual starting point were the iconographic materials kept in several Reggio Emilia-based archives, where Andreani investigated the historical and socio-political context of the town, focusing on the ideas of internal exile and imprisonment, closely connected to the women's history.
