September 30, 2022

Curious Wonderful is the new great public and collective art project that the Municipality of Reggio Emilia has created for the town of Reggio Emilia. It consists in the creation of a large permanent work created by the Catalan artist Joan Fontcuberta, a refined and ironic artist who loves to work with people and with the photographic medium in an unconventional way.

The work has been composed with 12,000 photos (especially selfies and portraits) that recall curious and wonderful moments spent with the people we love, with the aim of bringing art into the street, outdoors, out of conventional places, making it usable every day to everyone.

A selection of the 12,000 shots have been recomposed together with photos of the objects present in the museum collections, in a big large image obtained thanks to a digital processing software depicting a big peacock. The subject chosen by Fontcuberta draws on the zoological collections of the museum which he knows very well and to which he has dedicated important works.
