Biodiversity Oasis of Cà Pergoletta (Oasi di Cà Pergoletta)

Spanning across a 5-hectares, this area has been recognised SIC (Sito Interesse Comunitario - Environmental Interest Site for the EU) and ARE (Area Riequilibrio Ecologico - Ecological Restoration Area) from the Italian Ministry for Environment. This Oasis, after the A1 motorway construction, has been left isolated from other green areas, maintaining a spontaneous biodiversity of great interest. Many lowland springs have been reported to surge in this area since centuries, keeping a great biodiversity both in fauna and flora. Ecologists have been reporting the presence of more than a hundred bird species, among these there are the marsh harrier, the sparrow hawk, the kingfisher, many types of sparrows, moorhens, crayfish and a rare species of fish, called Panzarolo (Italian Spring Goby). It has been recorded also the presence of marsh turtles.
This oasis is one of the last forested lands in all Pianura Padana, it has been restored and upgraded for more accessibility with a wooden trail, the presence of signals and descriptive panels. The area is always open and freely accessible.

Lowland Springs of Corte Valle Re (Fontanili di Corte Valle Re)

Halfway between Reggio Emilia and Parma, this 37-hectares area preserves one of the last examples of lowland springs (called "fontanili" in Italian), clear water ponds rounded by reed, marsh bushes and long canals that scar the fields, near an elegant country house with a tower within short distance from the motorway. The area denomination has its roots into the name of Filippo Re, from the Reggio noble family with the same surname. the Count Re was the Dean of Bologna University at the beginning of the 19th century.
