Description
The monument was erected by the city government in the twenties, and has an architectural structure of granite, which base measures sixteen feet, with a height of fifteen meters. It is decorated on two sides with large bronze statues: an infantryman and the Winged Victory. The top is decorated with bas-reliefs, again in bronze, representing the three Fates, a dying soldier, a rural scene and warriors.In those days, according to the fasscist ideology, a climate of nationalism grew in many cities of Italy, and monuments were intended to celebrate the values of nation.The work was created by the sculptor Alberto Bazzoni from Parma (1889-1973), winner of the contest specially organized.
