Agricultural area until the 1960s, now it is one of the main towns of the ceramics district, alongside Castellarano, Sassuolo and Fiorano Modenese.

Local history

Casalgrande maintains its historic quarter around the old castle, which may have existed as early as the 13th century.
Casalgrande Alto Castle, built in the 15th century, features a fortified courtyard with two square towers, a rampart, and the remains of battlements.
The lower area, historically known as Boglioni, is home to the modern town centre.
The area has undergone profound agricultural and industrial transformations, which led to the emergence of the internationally recognized ceramics district between the 1970s and 1980s.
