Piazza Giacomo Matteotti

At the heart of Brescello lies the charming Piazza Giacomo Matteotti, the town’s vibrant centre and the perfect place to begin exploring its history, art and unique atmosphere.

At the centre of the square stands the majestic statue of Hercules the Benefactor, created by the renowned Renaissance sculptor Jacopo Sansovino in honour of Ercole I d’Este. A symbol of Brescello’s historic ties with the House of Este, it is one of the town’s most iconic landmarks.

On the north side of the square stands the Parish Church of Santa Maria Nascente, an elegant 19th-century building which houses precious works by Carlo Zatti, Antonio Gualdi and Lelio Orsi, bearing witness to the community’s rich artistic and cultural heritage.
