'S. D'Acquisto' Museum of the Resistance

In the heart of San Polo d'Enza's ancient fortress, in a space adjoining the Town Hall, the Museum of the Resistance safeguards the memory of the Liberation struggle in the Val d'Enza area, telling the story of the courage of the men and women who contributed to the fight for freedom.

The exhibition pathway features photographs, original documents and personal accounts that illustrate the strategic role of this area, a crucial link between the partisan units of the plains and those of the Apennines.
Much of the collection comes from the private archive of partisan commander Massimiliano Villa, head of the 143rd Garibaldi Brigade and a key figure in coordinating partisan actions along the Enza river.

Alongside portraits of local Resistance key figures, the museum displays original communications between different partisan detachments, historic documents and post-war honours awarded to several fighters, offering a valuable insight into one of the most significant chapters of 20th-century history.

The tour continues with photographs and testimonies dedicated to the period following the Liberation: 25th April celebrations, monument unveilings and initiatives promoted by the community to safeguard and pass down the memory of the Resistance to new generations.

Managed by the local branch of ANPI, the museum represents an important space for learning and reflection, where the history, memory and identity of the local area come together, inviting visitors to rediscover the value of freedom and civic duty.
