Casa dei Pontieri "D. Gialdini" Museum
In Boretto, on the banks of the River Po, a small but valuable museum tells the story of the old pontoon bridge that once connected Boretto to Viadana, which was destroyed in 1967. The exhibition was born from the passion of Romano Gialdini, son of the last bridge master and grandson of the first, who has collected images, objects, tools and photographs to preserve the memory of an infrastructure that shaped the daily life of the river community.
Inside the building, originally part of the bridge’s ancillary structures, visitors can admire a 1:10 scale model of the bridge itself and a wealth of visual documentation showing how the river was crossed before the modern concrete bridge was built. Work objects, tools, instruments and photographs tell the story of life , customs and stories of the bridge keepers, offering a fascinating insight into life on the Po and the ingenuity required to manage river navigation.
An ideal stop for those who love local history, industrial archaeology and tales of river traditions, a museum that combines the charm of the past with the passion of those who wanted to preserve its memory for future generations.
