San Bernardino Court
In the heart of Correggio lies the historic Corte di San Bernardino, also known as Casa Folloni, a building that tells the story of centuries of local history and nobility. Its origins date back to the 12th century when it was known as Villa dei Reatini, before passing into the ownership of the illustrious Augustoni family, who were in the service of the House of Este.
The estate retains a medieval and Renaissance charm, featuring the manor villa to the west, a dovecote tower to the north, and a 16th-century oratory dedicated to Saint Bernardino of Siena, who preached here in 1423, spreading the devotion to the name and monogram of Jesus. The tower, with its small Romanesque terracotta columns, stands as a witness to the estate's ancient Matildic roots.
Inside, the main hall preserves recently restored 17th-century frescoes, among which architectural perspectives, still lifes, the Augustoni family coat of arms, and a curious portrait of a lady with a kitten stand out—her face remaining wrapped in mystery to this day. The estate represents a perfect example of the fusion of history, art, and aristocratic life, making it a place where visitors can walk through the traces of the past and admire the charm of architectural and decorative details.
