Known as ‘the Abbey’, the Church of the Holy Trinity is one of the oldest monastic complexes in Campagnola Emilia.
The present building is the result of a major 18th-century transformation: it was in fact created from the south aisle of the ancient 13th-century church of the Augustinian monastery, which was once four times its current size.

According to art historians, the original structure served as a model for the Church of San Domenico in Reggio Emilia, a testament to its architectural significance.
Today, the church features a simple gabled façade with corner pilasters and a small bell gable. Inside, the polystyle pillars and cross vaults bear witness to medieval architectural elegance, whilst the sandstone capitals still bear finely crafted bas-reliefs.
In the 18th century, during the period when Cardinal Francesco Barberini was commendatory abbot, various decorative additions were introduced, including a stucco altarpiece and a wooden crucifix now preserved in the parish church.
The sacristy is particularly charming; recent restoration work has brought to light ancient frescoes depicting Saint Augustine, a precious testament to the complex’s Augustinian origins.
