Santa Maria Assunta Church
Reggiolo
The Church of Santa Maria Assunta in Reggiolo is a true masterpiece of harmony and grandeur.
The architecture, inspired by the Corinthian style, elegantly combines the Greek cross plan with the Latin cross plan, creating a majestic setting for prayer and contemplation.
Inside, three naves open out, dominated by a large central dome, flanked by two side chapels of great value.
The Chapel of Our Lady of the Rosary, a 18th-century remnant of the previous building, and the Chapel of the Holy Crucifix, with an altar and altarpiece in scagliola transferred from a decommissioned church, bear witness to the artistic care taken with the sacred furnishings.
he chancel houses an 18th-century inlaid marble altar from Guastalla, whilst ancient marble portals adorn the side walls of the Chapel of the Rosary.
The façade, elegant and solemn, is divided into two parts with a raised central section, a triangular pediment, a moulded attic cornice and pilasters.
Three entrances lead into the sacred space: a main entrance with an upper lunette and two side entrances with triangular pediments.
The Baroque bell tower, begun in 1700 and completed eighty years later, stands tall beside the church as a symbol of the community’s centuries-old devotion.
