In the heart of the hamlet of Santa Croce, formerly known as Villa Arzenago, stands one of the most elegant Baroque churches in the Bassa Reggiana area.
Built in 1716 with the authorisation of the Duke of Modena, Rinaldo III d’Este, the Church of Santa Croce was completed in 1726 and still houses the relic from which it takes its name.
The slender, simple façade embodies the grace of Emilian Baroque, free from decorative excess, culminating in the large cross that dominates its profile.
Around the church, the community – proud and devoted to its roots – has always carefully preserved this little architectural gem, so much so that it has earned the nickname ‘the Parisians of the Bassa’.
