The church can be viewed from the outside.
Built as a votive offering of gratitude following the terrible plague of 1630, the San Rocco Church in Boretto is a symbol of hope and protection for the community.
The inhabitants of Villa Bardello, who were severely affected by the epidemic, dedicated it to the patron saint of plague victims, entrusting their faith and remembrance to him.
The building, constructed in two phases, displays a dual architectural character: the apse and bell tower, solid and austere, date back to the late 17th century, whilst the naves and façade, more understated and harmonious, are the result of 18th-century alterations.
Following post-earthquake restoration, the church is now a vibrant space, hosting religious services and concerts immersed in an atmosphere of profound charm.
The San Rocco Church is a small sanctuary of Boretto’s collective memory, where the faith and history of the community converge, recounting centuries of devotion and resilience.
