Ancient and majestic, the Church of San Celestino has its roots in the Middle Ages, when it was first mentioned in 1103 in a deed of donation to the Benedictine monks.
Cited in imperial and papal documents of the 12th and 13th centuries, the church served for centuries as a spiritual and cultural focal point for the community.

Over the centuries, the building underwent numerous extensions and restorations: from the 15th-century extension to the construction of the tower in 1442, right up to the major 18th-century reconstruction designed by the architect Francesco Zanni, completed in 1769.

Inside, the church houses the precious Traeri organ from 1812, a symbol of the region’s long musical tradition, and a fine collection of sacred silver objects, including a 15th-century penitential cross, a reliquary from 1518 and a monstrance from 1785.
Severely damaged by the earthquake of 1832, the church has been restored on several occasions, culminating in a complete renovation in 1964.
