Fortress

La Rocchetta (first used as a Carabinieri barracks and then as a district prison), after the restoration work it was included in the international network of Youth Hostels (A.I.G.).
With the construction of the façade, of clear neoclassical origin for proportions and symmetries, it was decided to give back to the building architectural and functional dignity respecting both the need for a connection of the historical center to the railway, and resuming the style of the buildings that already overlooked Corso Cavour.
Initially it became the headquarters of the Royal Carabinieri Barracks; subsequently district jail, with housing of the prison guard and guardian. function carried out until the early twentieth century.

The hostel has 25 beds, with 3 and 4 beds rooms, a large room with 8 beds and a family room, with attached services.
On the ground floor reception and infirmary services with related services have been obtained; on the mezzanine floor there are collective bathrooms and showers; while on the first floor more private apartments have been created with private bathrooms.
The entrance to the Hostel takes place through the original portal of the nineteenth-century façade, while for the remaining side facades with exposed walls, work was carried out by cleaning and structural restoration, highlighting the parts of medieval walls from those of the last massive intervention at the end Nineteenth century.
