Via Matildica del Volto Santo Hike - Matilda of Canossa's Churches

Meeting in Reggio Emilia in the morning.

A fascinating tour that winds through the hills of the Reggio Emilia Apennines, to discover important places linked to the Matildic history. The excursion will wind through abbeys, parish churches and castles, testimonies of the ancient splendour of a distant era. Along the route, we will stop for a packed lunch at the Carpineti Castle. The excursion will end at the Toano parish church with a small snack/aperitif for the participants. The return to Reggio Emilia is expected around 7:10 PM, with a private bus.

Length: 9 km.
Duration: approximately 11 hours, excluded stops.
Elevation difference: 520 m.
Ascent – 200 m. descent  Altitude min-max: 490 m. – 890 m.
Trail signs: Via Matildica Volto Santo (VMVS) – Sentiero Spallanzani (SSP) – CAI Trails 618B/Y.
Difficulty: E - Excursionist.
