Historical notes
The palace is located where once was the S. Spirito Church, built in 1551, hosting a well-furnished library and a beautiful cloister next to the church. It was demolished in 1783, and the area was renovated in 1849 by the local artist Pietro Marchelli (1806-1874), on commission from the Carmi Brothers. It has undergone a series of modifications in the XX century.
The palace now hosts the local offices of the State Archives, and the ancient documents kept here are of considerable importance for the history of Reggio Emilia.
