Historical notes
The area has been inhabited since pre-historic times. During the Middle Ages the focal point of population was concentrated around the emerging centre made up of the castle, the church, the parish church and court under the aegis of the powerful “della Palude” family. In 1306 it became part of the feudal lands of the Da Correggio family, remaining under their control until the XVII century.
Not to be missed
The Santa Maria Assunta parish church, with a brick façade, has a Baroque style interior with precious altar frontals in polychrome scagliola.
The nearby Palazzo Guidotti incorporates part the ancient castle that held the primitive settlement, the walls and the XV-century bastions. Several rooms of the (private) building are now used for receptions.
Entertainment
The Pedrazzoli Theatre is the centre of cultural life.
What to eat
The Fabbrico-based Compagnia del Nocino (Nut Liquor Society) is dedicated to keeping alive the recipe of this ancient liquor, prepared with an infusion of walnuts (husk), gathered on the evening of San Giovanni, June 24, in alcohol.
