Its name recalls an ancient staging post where horse-drawn carriages once rested on their journey through Reggio Emilia.

This broad, varied green space houses the community centre of the same name and is served by a network of shared pedestrian and cycle paths that interconnect and divide the park's different zones.
A spacious tree-shaded car park welcomes visitors, while an entrance plaza - complete with a drinking fountain, benches, and park lighting - leads into the main grounds.
The park also features an equipped children’s play area, designed for outdoor leisure and recreation.

Nature

The landscape is defined by alternating broad lawns, tree avenues, standalone specimens, and clusters of flowering seasonal shrubs.
Among the mature trees are horse chestnuts, hornbeams, and oaks, enriching the scenery with varied forms across the changing seasons.

A park for learning road safety

Parco Il Carrozzone also fulfills a distinctive educational role.
During the academic year, the Local Police (Polizia Locale) run a cycling road safety programme within the park for primary and lower secondary school pupils.
Each year, the initiative involves around 1,500 school children from across the province, giving them practical, hands-on experience in learning basic cycling and traffic safety rules.
