Crostolo Park

The section of Crostolo Park that lies to the south of Reggio covers an area of 5.7 million square metres and is one of the most popular and well-loved natural green spaces among the people of Reggio.
The city centre is linked to the park via the so-called ‘Passeggiata Estense’, a cycle and pedestrian path that runs from Corso Garibaldi, via Viale Umberto I, to the park’s main entrance, just past the San Pellegrino bridge, before continuing along a route entirely surrounded by greenery to the historic Reggia di Rivalta and Villa d’Este.
This is the ancient route which, since the 18th century, has connected the inner city within the walls with the Reggia di Rivalta, once described as a ‘little Versailles’ due to its clear architectural references to the French style.
Alongside the Reggia di Rivalta are Villa d'Este and Villa Rivaltella, which together form the system of the Este residences (whose historical and landscape value is enshrined by the establishment of ministerial protection over the entire area).

The “Parco delle Caprette” covers an area of 28,000 square metres and was originally the riverbed of the Crostolo stream; once the river had been diverted and the riverbed filled in, the current park was created.
It was subsequently decided to install various facilities and furnishings.
A distinctive feature of the park is the presence of several Tibetan goats, from which it takes its name, roaming freely within the green space.
The park also features the ‘Parco della mente’ (Mind Park), a trail of exercises for the body and mind described on a series of information panels.

Crostolo Park stretches from the immediate southern outskirts of the town (Monte Cisa Park or Caprette Park) to the border with the municipalities of Quattro Castella and Albinea.
