In the heart of Reggio Emilia’s northern district, a short walk from the railway station and in the lively neighbourhood of Santa Croce, lies an area of great historical and cultural significance.
It was here, at the beginning of the 20th century, that the city’s first industrial area was established, a symbol of development and modernity.
Among the most iconic buildings is the former Locatelli industrial complex, a fine example of 1920s industrial architecture.
This historic site, linked to one of Reggio Emilia’s most beloved and iconic brands, was subsequently acquired by the municipality and transformed into a space dedicated to the future: the International Centre for Children’s Culture and Creativity.
Opened in February 2006, the complex covers an area of approximately 12,000 square metres and houses numerous spaces dedicated to creativity and learning:
- workshops and educational spaces
- exhibition areas for permanent and temporary exhibitions
- spaces for training, research and documentation
- rooms for meetings, gatherings and conferences
- café-restaurant
- a nursery school and a primary school
- the Reggio Children headquarters
A place that represents an extraordinary opportunity for urban regeneration, capable of combining historical memory, pedagogical innovation and cultural vibrancy, making it an unmissable stop for anyone visiting Reggio Emilia.
