In the northern area of Reggio Emilia, along Viale Trattati di Roma, near the bridges and just a short walk from the Mediopadana railway station designed by Santiago Calatrava, stands the sculpture Evolution of Ingenuity, a monumental work celebrating technical and artistic innovation.
Created by the Reggio Emilia–born artist and designer Franco Reggiani (1926–1991), the piece is composed of key components from seven historic cars of the Scuderia Ferrari.
From the nose of the Alfa P12, with which Enzo Ferrari competed in his first race as a team owner, to the hood and rear wing of Villeneuve’s T5, the sculpture transforms automotive elements into a true three-dimensional artistic experience.
Conceived in 1979 and later expanded to its current size, the work embodies the fusion of technique, design, and creativity that defined Reggiani’s genius.

Franco Reggiani, born in Reggio Emilia, studied at the city’s Art Institute and Technical Institute.
He worked at Officine Reggiane and in France as an industrial machine designer before turning to automotive design, collaborating with prestigious brands such as Cisitalia, Stanguellini, and Maserati.
His sculptures, exhibited in solo shows in Padua, Reggio Emilia, and Treviglio, are also part of public and private collections in Milan, Washington, Basel, and Beirut.

Today, Evolution of Ingenuity is both an artistic and technical landmark of the city a work that celebrates Italy’s passion for automobiles, ingenuity, and timeless creativity.
