In Castelnovo Sotto, a unique museum celebrates the history of wine production with a private collection of almost three hundred vintage corking machines, dating from the 1600s to the 1950s, and other tools used to the bottling of traditional wines such as Lambrusco and Malvasia.
The museum was born out of the passion of Silvano Perseguiti, a retired craftsman, who, with care and dedication, collected these machines, creating a precious testament to the province’s winemaking and rural traditions.
The oldest capping machines date back as far as the late 17th century, while others come from France, Belgium, Germany and Italy, with a particular pride in the local ones, used in the countryside around Castelnovo Sotto.
The charm of the collection is brought to life thanks to electric motors that demonstrate how they work, and charming figures in action that recreate scenes such as grape pressing or the activities of cheesemakers.
In addition to the corking machines, the museum also displays machinery for bottling, washing, carbonating, caging and labelling, offering visitors a true journey through the history of winemaking process.
A visit to the Museum of Vintage Corking Machines is an ideal experience for lovers of tradition, families and curious tourists who wish to rediscover the rural roots of the Lower Emilia region and immerse themselves in the historical memory of the area.
