"Don Camillo e Peppone" Museum

In the heart of Brescello, the town that saw the adventures of Don Camillo and Peppone come to life on the big screen, stands the “Peppone and Don Camillo” Museum, a place dedicated to Giovanni Guareschi’s famous characters and the films that made them immortal.
Between 1951 and 1965, five films in the series were shot right here in Brescello, starring Fernandel and Gino Cervi, and today visitors can relive that unique atmosphere through props, photographs, original posters and reconstructions of the film sets.

The museum houses treasures such as Don Camillo’s cassock, Peppone’s motorbike, the sidecar and the charachters’ bicycles, as well as equipment and projectors used during the first screenings.
Outside, you can admire the tank and the locomotive that appeared in the films, while the famous Talking Crucifix is kept in the church of S. Maria Maggiore.
During the visit, the films in the series are screened on a rotating basis, offering an immersive experience that combines cinema, history and local culture.
Opened in 1989 thanks to the efforts of volunteers from the Pro Loco association, the museum allows visitors to immerse themselves in Brescello’s cinematic heritage, discovering anecdotes, fun facts and memories related to the making of the films.

On your way out, you can buy books by Guareschi, DVDs of films, local specialities such as Lambrusco Don Camillo, and traditional sweets such as Spongata.
