Nestled in the tranquility of the Reggio Emilia lowlands, between Gattatico and Campegine, Casa Cervi is much more than a museum: it is a place of remembrance, courage, and resistance. Here, in the farmhouse that was home to the Cervi family starting in 1934, visitors can relive the extraordinary story of the seven brothers executed by the Nazi-Fascists in December 1943 and discover the deep connection between rural culture, civic engagement, and anti-fascism.
A journey through memory
Crossing the threshold of Casa Cervi means stepping into a story that speaks to universal values: freedom, solidarity, and courage. Through documents, photographs, everyday objects, and multimedia exhibits, visitors are immersed in the story of the Cervi brothers, their partisan struggle, and their commitment to a better world.
The museum, founded in 1960 and enhanced by renovations in 2002 and 2021, also organizes conferences, exhibitions, and cultural activities, offering advanced educational resources and an engaging experience for students, teachers, and visitors of all ages.
The Agro-Environmental Park
The approximately 16-hectare estate surrounding the house has become a true agro-environmental park: a trail winding through native plant species and landscapes typical of the Po Valley that tells the story of the region from its origins to modern agriculture. As you stroll through the fields and vegetable gardens, you’ll discover the interactions between people and the environment, the cultural and agricultural transformations, and the evolution of rural life that made the Cervi family’s example possible.
The museum's sections
- Farm Life – Life in the fields, innovative choices, and the daily life of the Cervi family.
- Anti-Fascism and the Resistance – The courage to oppose the regime, the organization of the Resistance, and the tragic fate of the Cervi brothers.
- A Family Remembered – The story of the Cervi family, their moral legacy, and their influence on the country and future generations.
The tour begins with an immersive room that recounts the dramatic fate of the seven brothers, then takes visitors back in time, showcasing the family’s origins, their passion for the land, their agricultural innovation, and their open-minded outlook on the world, symbolized by the famous globe they purchased along with their new tractor in 1939.
A museum where memory meets innovation
Casa Cervi is a museum that blends tradition and modernity: videos, immersive projections, and works by local artists guide visitors through an emotional and educational experience, bringing the history of the Cervi family to life. Eco-sustainable materials, raw earth, and words inscribed by poets make the tour even more engaging and evocative.
Every visit is an invitation to reflect on the values of the Resistance and the need to continue the struggle for a better world. As Papa Alcide Cervi once said: “After one harvest, another follows.” Casa Cervi is not just a place of remembrance: it is a place that speaks to the present and the future.
