At the beginning of the tree-lined avenue leading to the Mauriziano, the summer residence associated with the great poet Ludovico Ariosto, stands the elegant Mauriziano Arch, one of the most charming architectural features of the complex.
Built in the 16th century in terracotta with a single large archway, the arch marks the entrance to an avenue stretching for over 250 metres and lined with poplar trees, guiding visitors towards the historic residence and its park.
According to tradition, the arch was commissioned by Orazio Malaguzzi, a figure closely connected with the restoration and enhancement of the Mauriziano complex.
Over the centuries, the structure underwent restoration works in 1874 and 1933, preserving its historic character and its role as the monumental entrance to the villa.
