Sant’Andrea Apostolo Church

In the heart of Castelnovo di Sotto stands the Sant’Andrea Apostolo Church e, a symbol of faith and rebirth that has endured through the centuries.
According to tradition, it was Adalberto di Canossa, lord of the area, who had the ancient building demolished in order to rebuild it on a larger and more imposing scale; his successor Teodaldo then decreed its elevation to parish status.
In 1631, the church was granted the title of Arcipretura Plebana by the Pope, confirming its autonomy from Campegine.
Just a few decades later, in 1650, the building was completely rebuilt, retaining the same site but taking on more majestic proportions.
The earthquake of 1832 caused the collapse of the attic and the subsequent reconstruction of the façade, which today reflects the understated harmony and clean lines of 18th-century architecture in the smaller towns of Emilia.
Simple yet elegant, the church of Sant’Andrea continues to serve as a focal point for the community, weaving together history, faith and memory.
