Route description
Starting from Reggio Emilia, past about 2 km is the Lombroso Pavilion on the left, now Psychiatry History Museum. The whole complex looks like a large park, inside which buildings of various types and periods are located.
On the opposite side, continuing for another 2 km, you will find the "Mauriziano" or "Casino dell’Ariosto", the summer home of the poet Ludovico Ariosto who resided here, as guest of the cousins Malaguzzi Valeri. It is a building of the typical XV-century Emilian architecture, which houses magnificent Ariostesque rooms (called dressing rooms) on the first floor. The access avenue from via Emilia consists of a double row of ancient poplars and the unmistakable terracotta arch.
Walking along the entrance avenue, is the Rodano River Park, divided into two sections, inspired by two principles: classic near the Mauriziano, with plants that respect the criteria of the ancient parks, while between the Rodano river and the Ariolo river extends an agricultural area where is also spontaneous vegetation. Following the signs and pedaling in peace through fascinating natural and agricultural landscapes, the path crosses underpasses and walkways and reaches the Acque Chiare (Clear Waters): from there the connection to the Crostolo River path leading to the Rivalta Palace is close.
